RockSense, Geosteering for CTD

The drill-by-wire capability of AnTech's COLT and POLARIS BHAs means that wells can be drilled with a high degree of control and directional precision. However, full reservoir navigation capability requires logging while drilling (LWD) tools to give information about where the BHA is in relation to geological markers downhole.

AnTech can offer LWD in the form of a natural gamma ray sensor for depth correlation and wave propagation resistivity for formation evaluation and identification of the oil water contact (OWC). Both of these are physical sensors in the BHA, placed back from the bit.

In addition to these logging tools, a unique and proprietary development that AnTech can offer is RockSense, at-bit synthetic porosity for bed boundary identification.

At-bit formation identification enables the directional driller to respond to changes in formation as the bit passes through them. This technology has only been made possible with the combination of fully instumented BHAs, such as COLT and POLARIS and high-speed wireline communications.

RockSense can tell the directional driller whether a bed boundary has been passed, within inches of the BHA passing through it. This is not possible with traditional formation evaluataion tools which are 20 to 30ft behind the bit. In some cases, errors could take up to a few hours to correct, by which point, the trajectory is off target. RockSense allows the directional driller to ensure the BHA stays in zone.

Formation boundaries detected at the bit, not 20 to 30ft behind the bit.

Means thinner reservoirs can be navigated effectively.

No additional length added to the BHA.

PDM or Turbine compatible.
